About This Event

When Ken Janssen passed away on New Year’s Day 2015, it caught us off-guard, although we all knew it was coming eventually. It was obvious in the days and weeks that followed how much Ken meant to so many people. He left a legacy of friendships that spans the globe. It's still hard to process that he is actually gone.

Stow House Records was created as a response to Ken’s diagnosis. Starting a record label was a way for him to continue promoting Northeastern Ohio music as he had done from his days in Burton, to Kent, and finally Cleveland.

This year, we are turning the spotlight on Ken to pay tribute to his musical legacy one last time. The Action Janssen LP is a collection of unfinished songs, outtakes, live, and studio recordings highlighting Ken at his best. His powerful voice, charismatic stage presence, and self-deprecating wit are on full display.

The money generated through this pre-sale campaign will be used in two ways:

Initial funds will cover the cost of producing The Action Janssen LP, and further Ken's efforts to establish Stow House Records.

The remaining money will be donated to Ken's nurse Megan, to help contribute to the cost of nursing school. Please read Kathy's personal note below.

Additionally, the Northeast Ohio ALS Society will be at the event to provide information on ALS and the Strikeout ALS walk at Progressive Field in September.

Other information about the people behind this campaign:

A personal note from Ken's wife, Kathy Kerstetter Janssen:

During Ken’s illness, he had care and support from many friends, family, doctors, nurses, and therapists. However, there was one person who went above and beyond normal expectations of a nursing aide. Her name is Megan Jones, and she was Ken’s home health aide for the last 6 months of his life.

Over the course of those 6 months, Megan provided a level of care for Ken that I will be eternally thankful for. She came in early, stayed late, and worked on days she was supposed to have off. No matter how bad Ken was feeling, she could always make him smile.

Megan is working full time while putting herself through nursing school and raising two young sons. Ken was constantly encouraging her to continue her education. She made the Dean’s List this year, and I know Ken would have been extremely proud of her.

When Megan finishes nursing school, wherever her path leads her, I know she will be successful because of the care I saw her give my husband. In Ken’s honor, I would like to donate funds to help her continue and finish her nursing degree.

Everything else:

Stow House Records co-founders Ryan Orvis, Matt Cassidy and Charles Druesedow would like to thank you for your support in helping us further develop the record label that we began with Ken.

Ken was adamant that Stow House be used to promote charitable causes. We will continue to organize benefit concerts, and explore other ways of raising funds and awareness for individuals in need.

We look forward to paying tribute to our friend at the Beachland on May 30, and can’t wait to see you all there.

May 24, 2015 - A New Song by The IT*Men!

Hello Supporters!

The third single from The Action Janssen LP is a new song by The It*Men, featuring Fred Gunn from Hiram-Maxim on vocals.

Ken Janssen was working with the band on two new songs, but unfortunately became too ill to record the final vocals. Fred stepped up to the plate with a performance that channels Ken's spirit (and his growl).

Check out the campaign page for an exclusive preview of "Givin IT 2 U:" http://groovebot.gottagrooverecords.com/campaign/detail/3935

We have nine days left...thank you for your support, and thank you for helping to spread the word!
